Private Lessons

At Melody Magic, private lessons are designed to help students grow into confident, expressive musicians who truly enjoy making music. In a supportive one-on-one setting, lessons are personalized to each student’s goals, interests, and learning style, allowing them to progress at their own pace.

Private instruction is especially beneficial for older students who are ready to focus deeply, practice consistently, and take ownership of their musical growth. Along the way, students build confidence, creativity, and skills that can last a lifetime — and have the opportunity to share their progress in our uplifting year-end recital.

Frequently asked

Questions parents ask about Private Lessons.

Always. Come for a single lesson, meet your teacher, and see if the class feels right. Then decide — no commitment until you’re sure.

We offer year-round enrollment, so there’s no need to wait for a specific season to get started. Students naturally progress throughout the year, and that’s all part of the process. We encourage families to begin whenever their child is ready — because the best time to start is now.

Private lessons are best suited for older students who can focus independently, practice consistently, and stay engaged for the full lesson. Younger beginners often thrive in our interactive group classes, where learning music is active, social, and motivating. Group lessons are a perfect beginning and students move to private lessons when they are ready. There is no set timeline as every child is different.

At the current time we have expert teachers for piano, guitar, electric guitar or bass, ukulele, voice, and saxophone.

Private lessons are weekly, 30 minutes, one-on-one with an instructor.

Yes. Students will need an instrument to bring to their lesson (except piano, of course!) as well as to use for practice at home. If you need help finding the right instrument, we are happy to help!

Regular practice throughout the week is necessary for consistent progress. But we’d much rather see 10 happy, focused minutes than 30 minutes of frustration. As students gain skills, they naturally want to increase their playing… and thus practicing… but reminders from parents are always helpful.

Unlike many other studios, Melody Magic offers unlimited makeups. Sick day, sports tournament, family trip. With 6 hours notice, you will automatically get a make-up credit to use another day.

Music is best when shared, so yes! There are performances, including a big Spring Recital. They are optional but highly encouraged.

Enrollment includes everything your child needs to feel prepared, confident, and excited to learn. Students receive a song binder to organize a growing collection of repertoire and a music bag to hold all their supplies as they come to class. We also take care of copyright details for the songs we use and print.

Private Lesson enrollment includes a 4-month minimum commitment. The first few months of learning something new can feel challenging for many students. The 4-month commitment gives them the time and support to move past that initial hurdle, gain momentum, and begin to truly enjoy and feel proud of what they can do. It’s during this stretch that real progress — and a love of playing — starts to take root. If you decide to withdraw, we ask for 30 days’ notice so we can offer your spot to a family on our waitlist.
